Have you seen the barrage of commercials with the middle aged guy hanging around the house, drinking a cup of coffee, looking longingly out the window and wondering how he got so old?

Then a voice says…YOU CAN HAVE YOUR YOUTH BACK! You can turn back the clock and go mountain climbing, swim the ocean and date young, beautiful women. All you have to do is rub on a little testosterone gel, and PRESTO you are the quarterback of the football team!

Are prescription claims too good to be true?

But like a lot of things in life, this is just too good to be true. In recent months, there has been an explosion of advertising for testosterone products directly targeting the baby boomer generation. However, these products should only be used by men who have actually been diagnosed with low levels of testosterone (LOW-T) in conjunction with an associated medical condition, such as problems with the hypothalamus and pituitary glands that control the testicles’ production of testosterone.

The FDA has been evaluating the safety of products like Androgel and Axiron based upon recent studies. A November 2013 study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association suggested a 30% increased risk of stroke, heart attack and death in patients that were prescribed testosterone therapy. Another study reported an increased risk of heart attack in men 65 years and older. This same risk was found in men younger than 65 that had pre-existing heart disease.

Our firm is evaluating potential lawsuits for anyone who has had a stroke or heart attack while taking a testosterone product. Please contact us for more information.
