Whistleblower Cases

Whistleblower — Part 1

I've been working for this company, I think they are ripping off the government, is there anything I can do?

There's actually a specific name for this type of lawsuit, it's called Whistleblower Litigation. More and more we see headlines and we hear things about doctors, health care agencies, even government contractors, anyone dealing with the government, intentionally over-billing and basically trying to steal our taxpayer money. I think it's a very patriotic thing when someone comes to us and says, "You know what, I see my employer trying to rip off the government and I want to do something about it." And this is really one of the pieces of litigation that I'm most proud of. The idea that we can represent, not only you individually, but also the American taxpayer who's been the victim of fraud and theft by those avaricious companies that are out there overcharging, over-billing. Let me give you an example: there are many home health care organizations that perhaps overcharge on Medicare, who will say they rendered services to your parents, to your elderly, when in fact they didn't. For example: they'll say they sent over a nurse or a doctor to check on your mom or dad, when in reality they didn't send anybody, but they filled out the form and overcharged the government. That's illegal, it needs to be stopped and that's what we're here for. It could be that you work for a company that works for a government contractor that's doing inferior and shoddy work that's sending the bad products to our troops overseas, and you know that they're over-billing the government and they're charging for things that aren't right. You have an obligation and duty, I believe, to come to us, explain that to us, and we'll correct that wrong. Whistleblower litigation, in my opinion, is one of the noblest things we do here. We have the opportunity to represent all Americans that are being stolen from, they're taxpayer dollars are literally being stolen by companies who are overcharging for unfair bills.

Whistleblower — Part 2

I'm afraid to report it because I may lost my job.

Federal law allows for those that report government fraud to be compensated for taking that risk to report that fraud. I know how courageous of an act that is, to come see me and explain to me that there employer is over-billing the government or ripping off the taxpayer for their own profit. The most courageous thing an employee can do is to come talk to me about whether or not a company is over-billing or over-charging. In exchange for that the federal government allows for that individual to be compensated up to 25% of whatever the award is. For example, a case that recently settled, where the federal government collected $47.7 million from the company that was ripping off the taxpayers. The individuals who reported that fraud were entitled to up to 25% of that. So, the incentive is great to report it. But it's not just monetary, it's not just about the money, it's also the fact that what you're doing is standing by your country and your fellow taxpayers to make things right. Whistleblower litigation, in my opinion, is the proudest thing we do here. And that is because we're not only representing you as a client, but we're representing all Americans against government fraud. That is something that is not only rewarding for the actual reporting, but it can also be monetarily rewarding for the individual who reports the fraud.
