Xarelto Linked to Life-Threatening Bleeds

Posted By Maloney & Campolo || 23-Dec-2014

Life threatening bleeds, strokes, and even death may be associated with the popular blood-thinning drug, Xarelto. Since 2011, Xarelto has been prescribed to those experiencing leg and lung blood clots in relation to knee and hip surgeries and irregular heartbeats. Protect your parents and grandparents! If a loved one has been prescribed Xarelto, contact an injury attorney at Maloney & Campolo right away.

Use of Xarelto Is Misleading To Consumers

From 2011 to 2013, the makers of Xarelto spent millions of dollars to market the effectiveness of the drug in relation to patients with atrial fibrillation to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots, patients with deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism to decrease recurrence, and patients that have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery and are at risk of a blood clot.

Since its release, it has been claimed that the makers of Xarelto:

  • Improperly tested the drug before hitting the consumer market
  • Hid information necessary to its proper usage
  • Overstated how effective the drug could be

One fact that was withheld from the users of Xarelto is the associations of life-threatening bleeds that have contributed to the death of at least 65 Xarelto users, according to reports filed with the FDA. These bleeds have no antidote. It can take over 24 hours for the drug to leave the system, and requires the patient undergo a blood transfusion or blood dialysis procedure when the bleeds begin. With how dangerous this drug can be, these hours are some that a family member may not be able to afford.
